Horton Grove Brick Nogging

This detail of the interior of the timber framed Horton Grove home is of particular importance to show the skill and thoughtfulness that went into the construction. Not only did the enslaved builders demonstrate their abilities through the raising of the frame itself, but to put the bricks in the empty spots of the frame in order to provide insulation and keep out critters was ingenious. Admittedly, some may say that this detail was Paul Cameron's doing as the enslaver allegedly overseeing the construction, but any idea he may get credit for does not overshadow the skill it took to actually make that idea a reality as the enslaved people at Stagville did here at Horton Grove.
