Horton Grove Window

Horton Grove Window Shutter.jpg

This photo reveals the continued thought that went into building a home that would provide the family inside with a better life, or at least as good as one could manage in the midst of enslavement. Its solid construction has helped it last well over a century, and it still swings freely from fully open to closed. While closed, it offers protection from the elements, and while opened, it allows a wide view of the outside area of Horton Grove, where the enslaved people would spend their evenings cooking and cleaning and being in community with one another.
